Welcome to Musicals of Korea

This site is dedicated to Korean musical theater — both at home and abroad — with reflections drawn from my own experiences as an audience member. It’s part archive, part opinion, part curiosity project.

To help navigate the site, I’ve grouped the pages into a few key areas:

Musical Reviews

My personal reflections and critiques, organized by type: original Korean musicals, licensed productions, and Broadway shows I’ve attended. These aren’t formal reviews, but memory-based responses to performances that left an impression.

K-Musicals in the West

An archive of Korean musicals that have been performed in the U.S. and U.K. — including international tours, English-language adaptations, and co-productions. I document performance details, production history, and the broader story of how Korean musicals are expanding into global stages.

K-Musical Culture

A guide to the unique audience behaviors, ticketing practices, and backstage customs that shape musical theater in Korea. Whether you're new to Korean musicals or planning to attend one, this section will help you understand what to expect — and what makes the experience different.

K-Musical Timetable

A visual calendar of major musical productions in Korea, organized by venue and year. I added external references and my own review links for easy browsing — helpful for planning or just seeing what’s on stage across the country.

Why I Write

I prefer musicals to movies because there’s a curtain call. All the dead and the evil come back to the stage, smiling. It reminds us it’s just a story — that we shared it together, and that it ends with a bow.

I write to remember, not to judge — as I elaborated in my Review Manifesto.

And sometimes, I just want to say: “You had to be there.”
